Beschreibung aus dem Onlineshop von RailTraction: About The Ptb light rail car is an electric multiple unit consisted of three carriages, with powersupply via overhead wire and one with a pantograph (carriage C), developed in the early 1970s. This type was designed as real “Stadtbahn” car, it is hybrid between a tram and a metro vehicle. The first P cars were delivered to Frankfurt in 1972 for use on the B1 (today U5) line. That was the first vehicle of Frankfurt in new livery (Orange, ivory and grey). This look was inspired by BR 420 Suburban trains, that were running at the moment in Munich. All P cars were renewed to Pt (T for tunnel): they got folding steps. Some Pt cars ran through Frankfurt as classic trams. For more comfortable entry from standard U-Bahn platforms, the folding steps of 58 cars were moved a few centimeters outwards in 1998. So class Pt became class Ptb (B for breit/wide).
