The LNER K4 was a class of 2-6-0 ‘Mogul’ steam locomotives of which six were built between 1937 and 1939. It is a primary example of Sir Nigel Gresley’s ethos of designing locomotives for specific routes and tailored perfectly to the route’s requirements, rather than producing a standard class of locomotive for use across the entire London & North Eastern Railway.

Now you can drive this LNER K4 Advanced add-on and relive the glorious steam days of the West Highland Line while celebrating the remarkable survival of one of just six loco’s in all of her post-preservation liveries!

We have recreated four main chapters in the preservation story of 3442 The Great Marquess, from her entry into preservation in the 1960s right up to the present day.

1960s – LNER Doncaster Green
1980s – LNER Doncaster Green in Darlington style
2000s – BR Lined Black
2010s – BR Lined Black

COACHES

MatrixTrains LNER Gresley Teak coaches – These exquisite models include a beautiful passenger view, updated textures, updated simulation, updated audio and Just Trains steam heating effects. They also interact intelligently with the LNER K4 in order to simulate the lack of Direct Admission valves in Advanced mode, where the train brakes take much longer to apply and offer a more challenging drive. The LNER Gresley Teaks are in LNER Varnished Teak, BR Crimson & Cream and BR Maroon liveries, all with intermediate weathering.

Just Trains BR Mk.1 coaches – six types of Just Trains Mk.1 coach are also included, all complete with passenger view, a unique leaking steam effect from the coach heating system and connecting pipes. These Mk.1 coaches have received a thorough overhaul specially for the release of this LNER K4, with enhanced textures, improved sounds and brand new steam heat scripting with advanced random leakage and pressure propagation effects. The included Mk.1s are in BR Maroon, BR Chocolate and Cream, BR Corporate Blue & Grey, WCR Red, West Highland Line Tourist Apple and Cream, and Kyle Line Tourist Apple and Cream liveries.
